A Treasure Map, Some Kidnappers, and the King of Rock 'n Roll

In The Treasure of Moonlight Rdge, book three of The Moonlight Ridge Series, winter weather on the mountain goes from unusually cold to undeniably arctic, and a half-frozen stranger appears at the door. His mysterious message from long ago brings intrigue, danger, kidnappers, mishaps, and a search for ancient treasure. * The Moonlight Ridge books are southern fiction, a mixture of fact and fiction based loosely on my childhood and stories I heard from my parents and grandparents. The stories are set in the 1950s Alabama backwoods and a small Alabama town called Eden, which for hometown people is actually recognizable as my hometown of Leeds, Alabama. There's a lot of adventure as the two protagonists, Lily Claire and her "twin" cousin Willie T., explore the woods, finding mystery, magic, and occasional danger. As my character, Lily Claire, says, "We have always lived with ghosts on Moonlight Ridge." Living so close to nature, surrounded by seemingly endless woods, isolated woodlands, country folks who are constantly experiencing strange and unexplainable events, magical realism is a part of everyday life. There is magic all around us, all the time. In these environs, you don't have to imagine or invent the magic, it happens all around you and there is just no way to ignore it. What we now call the supernatural or the paranormal, was so constant in my family as I was growing up, my stories naturally reflect magic, beauty, and mystery as I have always known it. * If you like Southern fiction, you're in for a treat!

What Did You Dream Last Night?

Well, y'all. Last night I dreamed I found a persimmon tree full of ripe persimmons in my yard. I was so happy! I was busy and thought I'd come back later and get some persimmons! This morning, I looked around the yard and didn't find a persimmon tree full of persimmons.

Today all I can think about is persimmons! What did you dream last night?

I'm so happy to share the great news! The mice have arrived! My children's picture book, "Mice from the Planet Zimlac", is out and about! Mission accomplished! Or, "Houston, we have mice!" These charming and facetious mice are available from Amazon Books, and soon in bookstores everywhere.

Art Auction Benefitting Greater Birmingham Humane Society

My painting "Bird Dog," acrylic on canvas 18" X 24", will be auctioned at this year's GBHS silent auction. The auction will go live Jan. 28th. and run until Feb. 11, and will feature art work and other items donated by local animal lovers and supporters of GBHS.

Also at auction will be my "Shakespeare Possum" framed print, with the inscription: "A possum by any other name would still be a possum." - William Shakespeare. I look forward to this event, beginning online January 28th.

My daughter India's birthday was May 4th, and we had a delightful celebration, with family friends, and homemade birthday cake!

Buddy's buddy

This is crazy Buddy, with dirty feet, a border collie mix. We don't know mixed with what.

A couple of nights ago, Buddy came to the front door with an adolescent possum in his mouth. He was carrying it quite considerately, and pawed at the door, determined to get inside with "his" possum. I wish I had taken a picture of Buddy with the possum in his mouth, but I was too busy yelling at him and whacking him with a wrapping paper tube, the only thing in the world that he's afraid of.

So, he put the possum down on the porch, and I dragged him into the house while the possum, as would be expected, "played possum." He looked quite dead ... which I knew he wasn't.

With Buddy incarcerated inside the house, within a few minutes, the possum made a hasty get-away.

Then, guess what? Next night, Buddy's possum was on the deck, calmly looking for something good to eat, I guess, or looking for his Buddy.

Buddy wasn’t happy because I wouldn’t let him outside to see, grab, capture, or chase the possum. He made his horrible squeaking noise, which sounds like a giant rodent.

If Buddy’s Possum returns, and I expect he will, I’ll update the narrative of Buddy and his buddy, the possum!
